Why Waheed Rides
In just 12 months, Waheed Hirji lost both his mother and father-in-law to pancreatic cancer, and his best friend to brain cancer. Determined to turn loss into action, Waheed took on the 7 Days Cycling for Survival challenge. For the past 4 years, he has cycled over 1,100 kilometres each May to raise money for pancreatic cancer research.
“It's the least I can do,” he laughs, despite the grueling pace of up to eight hours and 160 kilometres a day. For Waheed, it’s simple: “Every pedal stroke is a chance to push progress forward.”
Along with a tight-knit community of riders, Waheed has helped us to raise nearly $2 million to fuel research, improve treatment options, and offer support to families facing pancreatic cancer. Every kilometre brings us one step closer to better outcomes.
